Thanks Ramsey!

So the shocks that SMB sells and the ones you sell are identical models except for whatever secret sauce you rub on the valves?

Re: Fox Shox from SMB

Can anyone describe the 'improvement' I would expect to feel by replacing the stock SMB OME shocks on my 2007 SMB 4x4 with these Fox? I replaced the shocks after six years with the same as original and saw no difference. I could use a smoother ride.

I can't comment on just the shocks alone, I had my springs re-arched and cleaned up/greased. For me the ride was instantly noticeable. It has much less sharpness to it, it feels a bit more floaty and smooth. Im not feeling every little detail of the road anymore. Is it all shocks? Is it the nice smooth springs that can actually flex and slide on each other? I would say its a bit of both. The old shocks don't seem to have much resistance anymore. I can easily push them down and they spring back with ease, so I would say the shocks were done for. However my springs themselves were rusty and crusty, the Teflon pads were long gone and they just were not sliding on top of each other very well. I believe it all plays off each other and with it all back to zero again its a real nice ride.
Hope this helps a bit.

No they are not the same lengths or valving. We are not really selling a SMB RIP Kit at this point and not competing with SMB West's offerings. We have done some custom work on SMB's with our FOX Shock selection and spring and shock mount work. We already have too much on our plate. SMB's part numbers are their's alone and their specs. They worked with the FOX engineers and I am sure they are a much better product and ride than the other brands they offered in the past. I think SMB owners would be very happy with them.

I talked to Peter DelToro last week. He said that SMB sold all of the Fox shocks they had made and will not get any more until late April or early May.

Geez, besides SMB I thought better availability was why Ujoint switched to Fox from Bilstein. What a strange world these days. Gas surplus and shock deficit. Who knew?

If you are looking for a good intermediate term investment - FOXF. There are some big things in the works.

Re: Fox Shox from SMB

I got the SMB FOX shocks in January and they are now installed. They replaced the original Rancho's that were on the 2004 build. I find the ride a bit harsher on the road at my 70 to 75 psi tire pressure. I kept the Ranchos more toward the softer setting so I was more used to that perhaps. Residential speed bumps are now done ultra slow, the jounce is very unpleasant and jarring. I won't say it was related but I did 3 speed bumps a bit fast to see the new shock operation and my brake vacuum booster pump failed 5 miles later. My van is lighter than most so that might be a factor too. I've done 1 - 10 mile off road jaunt with washboard and rocks at 40 psi (Borrego Springs, Coyote Canyon) and that was just a pleasure. I'll be going to the river by Yuma this weekend and will get a better long road trip experience. All in all I'm just neutral on them right now but I would be hesitant to recommend them to anyone at this point.
