I get everything from the ppl pointing and laughing to others walking up to it and checking it out,,,, thinking it's the coolest thing since sliced bread.

I'm the type of person who likes to be a little different from the norm,,,, and where I live (Louisiana) I haven't seen any other 4x4 vans,,, yet. I know they are out there somewhere though. I just think it's funny as hell, when pulling up to a light and see ppl do the old double and triple look at it.

I think you'll have to differentiate between 4x4 vans and tricked out 4x4 vans. I see 4x4 vans all the times but they are utility or work vans. With the combination of the mountains and the winters in these parts they are common enough but I've yet to see a van like a lot of the people on this forum own.
Looking forward to seeing one in person.

I would say the more tricked out 4x4 vans.

Re: Responses for owning a 4x4 van???

Having owned a classic Volkswagen Westfalia for many years, I thought I was prepared for the attention the Sportsmobile would bring. I wasn't. When I am at the beach with the van, I get more attention than a bikini model. The only difference is that most folks aren't so brazen as to ask the bikini model if they can "see under the hood."

Just in the last 2 days I had an older lady asked "is that a Hollywood van", that was a first. Then another person asked "so what don't you do with that" in which my reply was "get 30 MPG". I hate it when someone yells A-Team. I got a Ford and it's white!

My rig turn heads when passing through small towns, but it's mostly teenage boys who are impressed.

Re: Responses for owning a 4x4 van???

Funny when I bought the van I did not expect the comments or the spotlight I get. It actually made me a little self conscious at first. Now I don't care if people like it or hate it since I get so much enjoyment out of it and our family uses it like it should be used. After all it is just a Ford cargo van that has some stuff bolted to it that you don't see everyday. Its a tool we use to make memories for our family.

We have had many funny comments. The van has its own following and is like its own person sometimes. Everywhere I go people want a tour of it. It seems to appeal to all types some more than others. The rednecks love it. The hunters wish they had it. The enviromentally conscious folks are wary of it due to MPG but can respect what it does (however one gal just laughed at me and said it was a ridiculous vehicle). The kids think its a jungle jim and just stare at it in awe. The women usually snigger at it. The teenage kids usually stare in admiration. The funny thing is most people have an opinion about it regardless if you want to hear it, 97% positive and largely curious.

A sampling of comments I hear;

The most common thing I hear, "That thing can go just about anywhere"

"Mommy look, it's a monster truck"

"Dayyyyuuuummmm that is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen"

"What kind of MPG does that thing get?"

"What the hell is that?"
