steering issue
Hello,
i have a question about steering.
On mine new purchased E350 4x4 SMB (2001 Diesel) i am not able to steer while the van is standing on a place. You need to be rolling a bit before you turn. Maybe the hydraulic steering pump is tired or is it normal? There are 285/75-17 on
No oil leaks or strange noices! Also oil level is OK
Thanks for helping me guys!

Both is OK, I can not see anything unusual or worn. Belt was changed some times ago and the problem did not go.
The old owner had this "issiue" since years he said
The van has now 94K miles and the tirepressure is 51psi

Re: steering issue
was the pump or steering box ever replaced and could they have left a shipping plug in place blocking the line?

Re: steering issue
My current ride does this when parallel parking. An earlier E-350 that I had nearly put me into the wood cribs of a boat dock when the back end started swinging when I was driving off an ice-road onto a boat launch; the pump simply gave up after maybe 4 oscillations of the rear end. I've always accepted it as an E-Series limitation, especially with a heavier engine, but maybe I've just had two bad pumps in a row.

Re: steering issue
As i know pump and steering gear was never replaced. While moving the steering works perfect. Only when the van does not move i nearly can not steer. (most power is needed to the tyres but the do not get it.
Also if i rase the idle (in neutral) i am not able to steer... is there a adjustable maximum pressure valve at the pump?
I think changing the pump would help but i am not shure and to get it here to germany it is not easy and it is an expensive try
I like to buy a used one but most of the junkyards do not send to germany

Re: steering issue
Contact www.pscmotorsports.com online and have them send you a new pump. Tell them your problem and they will increase the pressure and flow. They are very reasonable and reliable.
