If you haven't already Ray; Zion's Angels Landing and Observation point hikes are both rewarding with fantastic Views.
If you decide on the Narrows be mindful a lot of it requires being in water (I just remember being wet a good majority of the time). Get out of there if the possibility of rain is evident, My Brother-in-law almost lost his life after a brief unexpected rain.

Thanks. Observation Point Trail area was wiped out by a landslide a few years ago, so that is out. Angel's Landing is now by permit only and is icy. We will go to Scout Lookout in the next day if two.
Hiked (walked, really) up to the beginning of the narrows today. All the employee types said take a pass due to flow and sediment filled COLD waters. Also, warm air temps = more runoff, and rain/snow expected Monday. The waders rentals are $100 for the day. I will put that towards buying some and our next trip here.
Most NP are kind of a one time visit for us. Yosemite is different for us, and now Zion is now in that category of NP's we would visit multiple times.
Any one 62 years old and over should get a Senior lifetime pass to the National Parks. Provides for free entry and 50% off campground fees. Zion's Watchman CG has electric connections and really nice sites that can be reserved.

This has been a great journey to follow. What an epic snow year!
How long ago did you make your reservations for Zion?

Thanks! It has been fun!
re: Reservations - 1derGirl has a knack for finding reservations. Recreation.gov is the website for nearly all the NP's and other federal parks. People do cancel reservations up to the day before and we find if we keep checking every now and again we can get a site when it is cancelled pops up as available. Often it is one site tonight and another tomorrow. Occasional you can pick up a block of days in the same site.
As an example, our site for tomorrow and Tues night were booked yesterday morning. Doing this definitely requires flexibility and adaptability. Keep in mind many of the sites will accommodate and allow two small RV's.

Well, we wrapped up in SLC on Wednesday with a cold but great spring day at Alta.
We said our good-byes and deeply appreciative thank you's to our SLC friends and hit the road yesterday on the way back to Mammoth.
Our route took us down the west side of Utah Lake via Delta and Great Basin. I learned too late about Lehman Caves at Great Basin NP. There are tours that look to be amazing. Noted for the next time through this area.
Stopped last night at a rest stop called Blue Jay on HWY 6. Nice and quiet.
We will be in Mammoth for at least a couple of weeks. Hope to get some non-skiing exploring in, too, with timerider as the roads open up!!
We will be in Yosemite from May 21 to May 25.
Alta - nice being able to park where we can ski back to Beastie!
Coming across Nevada on Hwy 6 on the way to Ely
What a magical trip!

Nice Ray. We've never discussed Great Basin but I love the place. It's probably too snowy up top to do any hiking this early but the Alpine Lakes/Bristlecone/Glacier trails up top as well as the awesome campground are not to be missed!

Been having some fun spring days here at Mammoth!! Maybe a bit of late season snow coming in next week. Lifts are opening at 8:30 and the snow is good through after lunch, just have to move up mountain as the warmth softens up the snow.
The boon-docking spots are clearing of snow. Lots of different rigs up here at the moment but fortunately plenty of spots to overnight. The parking lot at Chair 2 /Stump Alley is about 20% rigs of one type or another!
We have seen a few members up here. JohnW was super kind to find us and share a few moments. Eric and his wife from Incline were parked close by and we had a chance to apres ski in the parking lot together with really nice temps.
Give me a heads up if you are headed this way! Or we are easy to find in the parking lot .

Another great day on the mountain here at Mammoth.
Temps warm enough this evening to get the bbq out to cook some yummy chicken 1derGirl started marinating two days ago.
Mammoth is in the background in the pic.
JohnW stopped by at the end of the day as we were de-gearing. Hoping to get some runs together tomorrow.
Timerider was incredibly hospitable, again!, over the weekend. We did some nice exploring up some of the canyons, and on Sunday we even had a chance to do some work on his rig! Such a treat!
We are so humbly appreciative to be able to do this trip and to meet with many forum members. I hope all of you can get out this spring and summer to enjoy the recharge and connection to nature.
