We passed through that area a few months back, stopped at Red Rock Canyon state park after Death Valley, lots of wilderness to get lost in, but also many areas that are easily accessible, but with no cell service. Hopefully this will have a favorable outcome.
Arctictraveller you still somewhere exploring around Death Valley/Mojave? Maybe keep an eye out....

I’m sad to say they found the van in a closed campground today. He was inside and probably died Tuesday night.

Very sad to hear the news.

Without knowing the full circumstances around his passing, I just want to mention to all to consider getting a satellite tracker/communicator so that you can reach out (or others can know your location) when out of cell coverage. They are an extremely small investment.

Again, very sorry to hear this and my prayers go out to him and his family.

Sad news for sure. Any idea if it was medical or is it cold there now?

I read that --Investigators and the Coroner have determined preliminarily that no foul play is suspected, and Mr. Shaughnessy appears to have died of natural causes

Sad news for sure. Always great to see this community spreading the word and doing whatever we can to help.

He might have had a heart attack while camping. Maybe he checked out doing the thing he loved most.

This is very sad news and seemed to have touched upon many groups beyond just the SMB owners. When the search was still going I saw the missing person announcements in so many different interest groups on the internet. A true example of people coming together for a cause. On that note I was wondering if the family needed any assistance the SMB forum members could provide. I read Mr. Shaughnessy was in his 50's, still a young man, and I assume he has family. I also read that that there may be a connection between the family and SMB West if that is a way to communicate what would be needed to assist. I just wanted to put into the conversation if the SMB community is needed for support of the family.
