aluminess tire/galley box
Curious what you are doing with rear aluminess galley box and spare carrier with regard to the center where these two meet when they are closed? There is a hole for what may be a padlock to lock them shut. It does seem to make sense that something should be stuck in there even if not a lock. I currently have a bolt with some electrical tape that I wedge down in the hole when driving. easy in, easy to get out, but not ideal.
any recommendations?
thanks

Re: aluminess tire/galley box
I just throw a wire lock pin down thru there- super fast and easy.

Re: aluminess tire/galley box
Same wire lock pin but I made it loss proof by adding some 7X19 1/16 in. wire that I swaged on between the pin and a tiny hole I drilled in the aluminum thingy that overlaps the other aluminum thingy.

Re: aluminess tire/galley box
Is the assumption here that the two swing arms might fly open while driving down the road? My tire and galley box arms seem pretty secure if I make sure I slam them shut. Do I really need to also lock them with some type of pin? I definitely don't want to put a lock on them. I have so many locks with keys on my rig right now I look like a jailer.

Re: aluminess tire/galley box
I've had my tire swing open on the highway before. I still don't use anything in the middle.

Re: aluminess tire/galley box
Jage:
Operator error (failure to close tightly) or equipment error (latch malfunction)?

Re: aluminess tire/galley box
I'd like to see a second latch in the middle that you could lock if you wish, but something just in case.

Re: aluminess tire/galley box
I also use a pin, just a little extra security. No way would I put a padlock there.
