Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Does anyone know how much these weigh per side?

Rock Slide Retractable Steps

I've lifted just the outer slider housing, they are solid 3/16 steel so they're kinda heavy--80 to 100 lbs is my guess per side complete.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

I just finished my road trip from SoCal to Logan, Utah to Redding and back to SoCal. Did it with my 9 y.o. son and had a blast. Minimal snow around but managed to get days of skiing/boarding in Logan and Tahoe.

Main reason for the trip was for the RSE slider/step install and to pick up a rear aluminess bumper. Steve and Kevin at RSE were great. The sliders turned out perfect and after the steps being deployed a multitude of times during our trip home, they continue to function perfectly. They are my son's favorite part of the van and they look great! One aspect of the sliders that I don't think has been mentioned yet, is that there is a built in safety mechanism where if something gets caught between the step and slider while they are closing(like fingers, arms, or a kid's head), they shut off automatically sort of like a garage door does. Something that I hadn't thought of but demonstrates the amount of thought and engineering that goes into RSE's products.

BTW, my van was the first to have a complete set of the sliders installed after the prototype set on the Wave, so all of the kinks have been worked out with the install and any future installs should be a breeze, probably just one day to install a set.

If anyone has any questions about these, I would be glad to answer them.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

I'll try to post some pics and a video but it will be a couple of weeks as my camera battery is dead and I left my charger at home in Hawaii. I'll be shipping the van to Hawaii next week and will post some pics after it arrives.

Sorry....

Bill

Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Hey there Bill,
Just found this thread and I'm really interested in the sliders. Also want to talk to you about the Big Island. Are you still in SoCal? I'm in Huntington Beach and would like to check out the sliders in action. If you're available anytime before you head back, please let me know.
Mahalo!

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Just showed the sliders to ABSOLUTEFREEDOM yesterday. He took some videos of the steps in action and maybe he will be kind enough to post them here. Otherwise it will be a couple of weeks until I can do so.

Notice that the passenger side deployment is much faster than on Lance's rig--that's what we've been waiting for. Don't like the switch that leaves them down though--I would drive off with them deployed which is bad. I already managed to run over the little plastic stool I was using.

Next week for me!

Tom
