SMEV 2-burner propane stoves

Last visit to SMB West, I noticed a new flush-mount propane stove being installed in a few rigs. After closer inspection, I found the SMEV #8022 to be a much better stove than the Wedgwood pos that is generally installed.

I asked if they could install one and it was eveident they didn't want to deal w/it. SMB told me "it wouldn't fit, don't bother".

I found one on eBay and installed it...fits great.

Anyone who has a stove and wishes for a solid improvement, here are my observations -

Pros:

Well made in Italy.
Quality stainless steel construction.
Has a recessed burner design, so any spills are easy to clean up.
Comes with a pre-sprung smoked glass lid, that also doubles as a heat shield for the rear area.
Sits flush with the counter top

Cons:

Price (about) $280 shipped. SMB wanted $475 installed.

Anyone interested, here is a similar unit I bought on eBay.

You can also 'upgrade' to a piezo electronic ingition if you want.

How is the rattle factor with this unit?

Very interesting. Thanks for the info!

I have to admit that the Wedgewood two burner propane is one of the better of the several dozen camp stoves that I have used, so that the new stove offered by SMB would have to be dang good to replace it.

Rattle is non-existent.

I cannot compare BTU, but the flame output is equal or greater than the original SMB unit. It has one burner for larger, hotter tasks and a smaller for simmering, or small pans.

Cabinet Depth?

I've been interested in having a flush-mount stove put in my vehicle. Seems like a great idea. Does anybody know much cabinet depth is required for this? I will have about 6 inches above my refrigerator to work with.

Thanks,

Garage
I got the same reaction from SMB, basically NO. I love that stove and would like to route a line outside where I could use an external tank. They said it wouldn't fit in the counter top and forget about it. When I ordered I asked if the stove (the old one) could be added later and they said no problem. Do they install a taller counter top when requesting a stove?

6" should be more than enough room. I can take a pic underneath ours. Let me know.
