The big question....

Looked around on the site but could not find my answer, I apologize if a friend on this topic already exists.

I have a 1999 E-150 with the 5.4L V-8. Currently the motor runs strong at 136k miles. I have always wanted a 6.0 or 7.3 Powerstroke though. Is is possible to swap motor and trans. in this model van with either of those motors?

Thanks!

Re: The big question....

The 6.0 and 7.3 PSD was only mounted in the E350, I suppose due to the weight and power of the engine.

Re: The big question....

Andrew is right. The frame on a 150 is thinner and not as tall - not as strong. The axles and brakes are underrated for the much heavier diesel.

If you really wanted to do a conversion on your van, swap the entire frame, electrical system and drivetrain from a diesel van under your body.

I was pretty sure the chassis and drivetrain were going to hinder this project. Well, looks like a bare PSD 3/4 ton is worth it to buy more than swap. Thanks for the input!
