What did you do to your SMB today?

Hey that’s pretty slick, great idea! I think I’ve got my factory radio laying around somewhere. How’s the Boss head unit? looking for something to throw in the project van that won’t break the bank, and that’s got BT, car play, android(what’s that?), camera input….there’s a few (newer) used units on CL, but it’s a crap shoot buying used car stereo stuff.

[QUOTE=gcvt;308068]Installed the new stereo, with fake faceplate made from the factory radio.

Genius, how does it stay on? Pressure fit?

Obviously haven't used it too much but, from what I can tell, it's a darn good budget radio with everything I could possibly need. Seems like the next step up is in the $800 range with wireless CarPlay, etc. but figured my phone was always plugged in to something anyway, so why pay extra. As long as the Bluetooth streaming works which it does.

I also replaced all the factory speakers with Polk Audio. I have absolutely no complaints!

Two little suction cups super glued to the back side The faceplate comes right off the stock radio with just a few screws. Super glue the buttons in from behind, trim down the edges, add a couple of suction cups, and you're done.

That's very smart. My Brother is building his Garage Mahal right now and is putting in a washing machine just for his shop towels haha.

Spent some more quality time under the van today. Let 'Project Propane Rehab' begin!

Wireless Rear View Camera

I “installed” a magnetic wireless Haloview camera with a battery pack option, thus avoiding any drilling and running wires to the roof. The monitor is mounted in the driver’s side cup holder and power is provided with a 12v plug. I initially placed the camera on the roof top, but realized that I would have to periodically charge the battery, so I decided to put the camera on my Aluminess box on the back of the van. I used a 1/16”x12”x12” steel plate on the top of the box held down by the top rails to attach the camera and the battery. The camera is easily removed and will be stored inside the box when not in use.

How difficult was this removal? Cutting tools? Where will you get a replacement, or are you rehabbing it? I have a similar situation.
Regards

Removal wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated! 1/2" carriage bolts on each end and disconnect the line (reverse thread). Then there was some wood trim pieces tucked in there and secured with drywall screws haha. It just took a while to wiggle it out using a floor jack. It's not heavy - about 35 lbs - but it has to come out slowly as you rotate it backwards about 45°.

This is a rehab project on this one. I've got it shot with Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer, and gloss white enamel is next on the to do list. The only issue I had was the little plastic tabs breaking off the gauge so I had to order another one from Amazon for $18.00

Hopefully it wiggles back in as easily as it wiggled out!
