Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

A while ago, I noticed that the rubber shift boot for my transfer case shifter had split. In the process of getting replacement info from John at Quadvan, I lamented that I couldn't replace the shift knob with the custom one I saved from my Westfalia since the Ford knob is pressed on and not threaded. John offered to fabricate a shift lever shaft with threads and I installed it today. My van is now officially "badass."

This particular shift knob is no longer available, but you can see others at http://www.kavalpewter.com.

Easy. You just shift from the cerebrum to the thalamus, then to the hypothalamus, then to the tectum and tegmentum, and finally to the cerebellum, pons and medulla. Of course that is for the eight-speed transmission.

You'll have to get a tattoo, a harley and a pet hyena to match your badass van.

Actually, I had these made at a trophy shop but they seemed too cheesy to actually use. Honestly, this isn't the Atlas. I think I can remember the pattern easily enough.

I'm trying to picture that skull shift knob in a Westfalia. Doesn't seem like it would "fit." Much more appropriate on a SMB 4x4!

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Installed 'new' FICM with Atlas 40 tune. New air filter at same time. I'll bet I could do it in less than 2 hours next time. Don't you just love a learning curve?

Seems quicker off the line, similar power on the road. Maybe slightly louder exhaust noise. Will wait for a trip to check mileage change, if any.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Set my new water tank in place under the dinette seat and figures out what plumbing fixtures I will need.

What ideas do you all have to hold the tank in place so it does not move around?

Just two vertical square brackets at both opposite corners screwed in the wood...

Yep, or metal strapping, or wood blocks. I've mostly seen metal strapping.
