Just spoke to Tripp Lite Customer Service who were stumped. They have never heard of this problem but their play book says that they do not recommend connecting to GFI controlled circuit. Instead as the owner manual does say, the output should be run through a GFI, which SMP does. No amount of prodding or prying could elicit any more intel on how the charge circuit works but they promised to research it and get back to me. Hmm manana methinks.
On another subject but related - what steady state battery charge voltage are people seeing from their inverter driven chargers? On the Intellichoice version I saw a typical 13.4V but on the Tripp Lite its 13.9 or 14V even with the B3 switch set to Low. I have been led to believe this is too high. My setup does have the battery temp monitor installed and given the cool exterior temps this time of year, that may be the reason why the charger is allowed to put such a healthy voltage through the battery?
