What chargers are you using?

I'm getting a house battery system installed at van specialties right now. I'm providing the blue sea battery separator recommended by others. I'm wondering if I should do the same with the charger. I'm not sure what they are selling and I guess that would be important to know for this post. Anyway, would like to hear of successes if possible.

I'm using my high end Xantrex Prosine 2000 inverter to do the charging. Those are no longer made but I'm sure something better has taken its place. It's 3 stage and programmable, so it can be set up to a specific charge mode but I just have it set to a basic mode. It does have a temp probe on one of the batteries to keep from over charging in extreme hot weather.

Maybe you don't need to spend the big bucks on an inverter.

I suggest the Intellipower PD4000. It is a combination of 120v distribution, 12v distribution, and 45 amp charger/converter. It is available for wet cell or AGM batteries. It also has terminals for a 12v main disconnect.

The big advantage of this unit is space conservation. Instead of separate boxes for 120v, 12v distribution, and 12v charger, it all comes in one small package. We haven't used it long enough to find any problems. I don't know how it might integrate with solar.

Rob at Van Specialties should be familiar with this unit since they provided and put it in my van.
