Unique Conversion Project

No affiliation, But could be a very fun project.
Stumbled across this and looked real interesting (for the right person), so thought I'd throw it out here...

Certainly an interesting platform. But I couldn't help but laugh at the seller's assertion that "similar build sell for $350k". Hummers look awesome, and that's about the last nice thing anyone has to say for them. Maintenance is a nightmare, they ride rough, They're loud, hot, and cold, and they're so incredibly wide. But despite their size, they feel small inside.

Still it would be cool to see what someone with the cash could turn this into. IMHO, it needs to go back to Iceland.

Flash back Tuesday! Back in the late 90's when I worked for the NPS, I had one of these in our fleet. It was a military excess unit that we used for wildfire support. When I got to the park it had already had a remanufactured engine installed by a local military base. In the three years I was at the park, I had two more engines installed at the same military base and all were junk. I'm not sure if it was an issue with the engines or the mechanics. I must say that when it ran it actually handled rough roads very well. It only had about 2"-3" of foam cushions under one's rear, but it still handled the rocky rough roads (Shivwits Plateau in Northern Arizona) better than anything else we had. Sure it was wide, so wide that it really didn't fit on the narrow two tracks in the area. However, it actually road so well that it didn't really matter that two wheels had to ride on the rocky berm. Reliability aside it made an incredibly capable rig when it ran, but it didn't run very often... As Vermonster said they're hot/cold/loud and a maintenance nightmare. Also kinda cool...

At least he is offering free shipping to a port of your choice. It should be easy to import to the USA.

I see bidding ended at only $2k. I'm a little surprised it didn't go higher. But it would be hard to justify too much more when a surplus H1 Ambulance starts at $3,500. Given this vehicle wasn't running, and needed a few thousand in tires, I'd be surprised if it goes for over $10k.
