How many miles are too many/V10?

Came across this van, a Chateau model with v10 and 3.73 LSD. 256,000 miles and supposedly maintained. I haven't seen it yet or reviewed any records. Seller says it passed smog in CA but that is is throwing occasional codes although driving fine:

"So over its lifetime its registered the following codes: P0151-153 (O2 sensor low, high voltage and cut slow response) And more recently a P0172 (system too rich bank 1)"

Ideally it would be reliable enough to make 2500-3000 mile road trips. I don't think the seller really knows what she has. Asking $5k, which is tempting.

Thoughts?

That’s a good buy at that price, because V10 Chateau models are rare.

Non-commercial use, the V10 should be good for 500,000 miles with proper maintenance.

I replaced my engine at 460,000 miles but about 300,000 of those were towing, with a typical combined weight of 22,000 pounds. And if my fuel filter weren’t plugged, and if I wasn’t running an aggressive tune that disabled the safeties, I probably wouldn’t have burned up a valve seat.

I’m still haven’t opened up the trans, now at 504,000 miles.

As for those emissions codes… probably would be a good idea to just do a spark plug job out of the gate, run a fuel injector cleaner, and replace the upstream O2 sensors and the MAF sensor, and replace the fuel filter.. I suspect it would run like new after that.

I recently bought a 2000 EB V10 with a moderate bubble top. It has 295K miles on it but passes smog and runs clean.

It is a lift van that for 13 years was first owned by a church and saw only 30K miles.

The second owner was commercial and drove 45-50K miles per year for 5 years.

The third owner was private put about 25K since 2017.

The rear end was replaced before 2017. The transmission is very clean and I'm going to install an inline trans filter for insurance.

I just did an OBDII scan and nothing showed up.

If you have no issues with working on the vehicle (radiator, plugs, coils, injectors), I would not hesitate.

Ray, if you click the pic, rather than zoom in, it’ll open in full res in a new window, and you can zoom in clearly. Note I’m using safari on an iPhone. No idea if it’s the same on tappa.

Note I also see it has limited slip! I suspect this might have a full float rear axle as well, which seems to come with V10 wagons with limited slip even in RB size.

I think I figured out why the difference. I always view the forum on my phone with the "Full Site" option (lower left of the main page) selected because I like some of the features it enables but I now realize it does not allow the double click and zoom on the pics. When I switched to the the native mobile mode I was able to double click and get the new window with better resolution and zoom.

Thxs 👍🏼
