Leaving fridge on or turn off?

If I leave stuff in my fridge/freezer, and have solar panel, thoughts on keeping the fridge on #2-3 vs. turning off for severa week periods?

Seems we load it, take a trip, and must unload. Do you keep your refridgerator on or empty after each use and turn off?

Re: Leaving fridge on or turn off?

After a trip. I empty, clean, and turn the fridge off. Really no need to keep it running for weeks at a time while I'm home.

I keep mine empty and off.

If I were fortunate enough to be able to take off on an adventure every weekend, it might be a different answer.

I leave it off with the door open. Seems to take care of any gamy odors.

Empty and off and door propped open.

It seems to me the compressor has a finite life and leaving it running for weeks will eat up some of that life.

Re: Leaving fridge on or turn off?

Off, door open. But if you need it as a DD or some other frequent use w/o the fridge, you can put a container of ground coffee in it and not get foul/gamey/moldy odors. 1/2 pint of ground coffee in a SMB-size fridge will do it.

Probably need to change the coffee out every 4 or 5 months

Re: Leaving fridge on or turn off?

I leave mine off and open but then again I don't use it so frequently as to leave it on.

Don't leave beer in there while it is turned off. On a hot day one exploded and got all over the place. Wasted a very good porter

If I turn my Norcold off, how do I keep my beer warm?

Re: Leaving fridge on or turn off?

I keep mine running unless I don't have any trips planned within a few weeks. During winter I do more weekend camping and generally keep it on as long as it's cold outside. When I start it back up I was told to cool it down with ice rather than cranking it up while it's 95* inside the thing.

Leaving fridge on or turn off?

I keep mine on at 2 all the time. I have a towel in the freezer compartment a big jug of water, beer and I think right now there is a jar of salsa. I have a solar panel and with the fridge at 2 the solar panel has no trouble keeping it powered. I drive it once or a few times a week and it is nice to have a water cold while on the road.
