Question for Exped Megamat owners…with dogs

My new mattress quest continues.

After several mentions of the Exped mattresses, I was super motivated to go that direction. My wife did a modest dive into the reviews and found a number of comments about dogs putting holes in these. We have a 70 lb German shepherd, who doesn’t sleep on the mattress but does get up there in the AM to remind us it’s time to get up.

From the sound of things, these might not be a good fit for rigs with dogs…does anyone have any “big dog/no problem” comments?

It’s a bit pricey to perform my own experiment…

Can't say about the toughness with a dog but maybe place a quilt or thick blanket over the mattress to keep holes from happening.

I have one and have dogs, though never travel with dogs but I find this kind of a stretch.

The material isn't what I would call thin or chintzy. However, wouldn't a standard fitted sheet be enough added protection?

Our 50 lb golden slept on our exped for years without any issues. She was always on top of the bedding, but the material on the exped appears to be pretty durable.

I have holes in one from my 60 pound dog's nails when she got on one when it was not covered. I will not let my dog on an Exped mat without protection.

My attempted repair isn't as solid as I could have wished. One can send mattresses to Exped for repair.

My experience is with a mattress cover it is not a problem though. I have regularly used one in my SMB with a mattress cover and have had no issues.

I have two dogs. 130lbs and 70lbs. My little guy had a major freak out and happened to zoom by the Exped. He put a hole in it. I used some UV curable epoxy and no problem since.

I have had many sleep pads and I can't think of any that can withstand a full speed dog impact. I have slept w the pups on the exped for two years now w no other problems.

What would prevent someone from just having a mattress pad cover made for the Exped - something like 1000D polyester - suspect this would pretty much animal proof the pad.
Something along these lines:

Mine got delivered today! I can't wait to try it out Monday in my adventure trailer.

I can't imagine the Exped withstanding a dog long-term. If a dog was in the cards I would want a heavy cover as mentioned above.
