If it works when you're moving but not when parked you may have a lack of airflow over the condensers. I'd check that the fans are both working. (If your system is like mine you probably have two, one in front of the radiator and one between the driver's side door step and frame rail.)

Most of these comments resonated with me having had the original SC and its Danhard successor. A couple of key points not covered.
Find a way to close off the front 2 seats from the rest of the van. Even with all 3 windows insulated, its a solarium and heats the rest of the van. I have a thick curtain on a rail that I can pull across behind the front seats.
These vans are virtually uninsulated especially the walls/windows. Make panels of double sided aluminum insulation panels that can be velcro'd from wall to ceiling a mounted on the sun side as needed.
With these mods I can maintain a 20 degree differential in a Texas summer.
IMO the key is to keep as much 'heat' outside before it develops inside, Windshield Sun-screens that lay on the dash and prop-up against the front windshield allow the front windshield to create since it's allowed to burden directly, and then it's reflected back towards the outside - which in turn ends out heating the windshield from both inside and out - this is a lot of hot air create inside (think of it as a radiator) & all that all this hot air is trapped inside.
Try one of these, it will drastically reduce inside temps

Lots of good points here. I'll add that I have the original Starcool (that blows out the dash vents) and I find a small fan just behind the front seats really helps move the cold air into the rest of the van.
