Well I'm going to let SMB do their thing. Like I said, if they don't add a similar plate to the inside I can't see it doing any good. When I grab and move the awning, an area about 6x6 really flexes. I would think loose bolts would cause the holes to wallow out more but it seems like the flexing needs to be cut to a minimum to do any good. Will see.

yes on most SMB's they are Fiamma. I called Fiamma when my bolts came loose to ask about the mounting system and the lock nuts. I was told that the brackets are made or supplied by SMB, and not by Fiamma.
Peter at SMB did send me the new nuts and so far they are holding. But again, I don't have that sheetmetal flex issue.
