Cut Vinyl pop-top attachment

Hey all,

I recently had a shop do some work on my van and they returned it a disaster. More to come on this, I'll give a full write up pending how the shop responds to my requests for refund.

Anyway, one of the things they did was cut into my vinyl where the scissor jack attaches to the ceiling. I was wondering if anyone knows, first what's in there? Second, how is it supposed to look?

Sorry for your trouble, Adam. Popping off those black plastic domes will allow you to unscrew the fasteners & remove the cover. That edge can hopefully be glued back down.

Look at post #32 of Boywonder's terrific Popping My Top thread for a view of a cover underside.

You may be able to fix that without removing the block from the ceiling. You need brush on contact cement.

That flap folds over and glues to the bottom surface of the slot where the bar rides. Brush on some contact adhesive on both the vinyl flap and the mating surface (yes it will be tricky to get in there with a brush). Let the adhesive tack up for 10-15 minutes then stick them together without any wrinkles.

If there are wrinkles the bar may peel the vinyl off when raising/lowering the top.

It will be much easier to apply the adhesive and lay down the vinyl without wrinkles if you remove the block. The roof will stay put..no worry there....but it's more work.
