We just found Sportsmobile last week while looking for a small motorhome online. We went today and got a look at our first SMB, a used one in GR. Absolutely loved it, it is perfect for our type of travel but she had someone coming up from Missouri to look at it tomorrow. If they don't buy it then I might. Otherwise we'll probably get a used van and go the diy route with Sportsmobile putting in a pop top on it.

Rusty...

Yup, isn't it small. Ha We are looking to do some traveling and liked the Sportsmobile best. Ordered the van locally from the Ford dealer with ALL the options we wanted. It is sitting now at SMB Indiana waiting to start the conversion. We've "toured" the Indiana location twice with a ton of questions so we could decide and order it exactly as we want it. Maybe we will catch you at a Geocaching/SMB event.

Re: How did you hear about Sportsmobile Forum?

The forum came up in a Google search. I don't remember for what specifically, but I was exploring 4x4 van conversions, starting from a state of almost complete ignorance.

I've since ordered a rather bare-bones 4x4 SMB (Ford Quigley RB with separate passenger/cargo areas, electrical only no other systems, electric penthouse top, diamond tread plate roof rack). We aren't really campers - we were more looking for an SUV with a few camper-like features for day trips, tailgating-ish stuff, going to triathlons and other outdoor events, protecting some pretty expensive gear on the road to those events, etc. I used to own a slide-in Lance, which we used more as a super-SUV than a camper. Very occasionally when the choice is between a flea-bitten motel and the van, we'll crash in the van for the night. But the penthouse will get more use as a daytime nap/private area, foul weather photography platform, etc. The tread plate roof rack will be a penthouse-top-down upper patio in good weather, as much as a place to carry stuff.

This forum has been (and will continue to be) very educational. Many thanks.

Re: How did you hear about Sportsmobile Forum?

I was Googling some info on changing the seats on a Chevy Express van, and lo and behold, some links led here.

Been looking at for what seems like a decade but never signed up. I think I found it on an RV site and not google.

Re: How did you hear about Sportsmobile Forum?

Was looking for a SMB for sale and somehow linked to a comment on this site, or maybe one that mentioned it. Come to think of it I don't really remember exactly how I found the forum, but it started with a google search. Anyway I'm glad I found it b/c folks are helpful and friendly and provide answers to a newbie type such as myself who is just trying to figure out all the options.
