Scangauge question...
So I am thinking about getting one of those fancy scangauges for the sole purpose of monitoring transmission temp (but the other functions will be fun to play with as well ). So basically the scangauge I looked at has 12 gauges to view. But the one I am most interest in is trans. temp. So if I buy the scangauge II here:

How would I program it to read trans. temp? And is the X-gauge an upgrade or does it come with the package? I guess it has 24 gauges you can pick from. Thanks for the input guys...

I think the X-Guage is standard product and now part of the ScanGuage II.
After defining the motor type, you then use a code to select the extra guage that is Trans Temp.
It is not hard to do once you have the instruction book in front of you.
We watch coolant temp, transmission fluid temp, instant fuel economy and tank fuel economy.

So it is not extra money for some kind of x-gauge upgrade? And how do you program it? Through a computer or manually on the unit itself? $169 seems like a decent deal for one of these. I already have the input for this thing mounted underneath the steering wheel from the superchips tuner. So I guess I would just have to plug it in? Thanks...

At one time I think folks could upgrade a ScanGuage to have X-Guage capability. It is my understanding that the ScanGuage II includes the X-Guage capabilities.
We have been able to do everything we needed just through the menus and navigation on the unit itself.
The key is understanding the menu paths and the specific codes for your vehicle/motor's x-guages.
This is not something I ever want to remember, but just keep the little instruction booklet and the website handy. The website has documnetation that shows the x-guage codes

They are easy to install...My SMB has the existing plug under the steering wheel. I'm not sure if it came like that from the factory but it is the same plug that I can hook my superchips tuner into. Look at the cable here:

Everything comes with the new Scangauge II. You download the codes from their website and then follow directions to program what you want. Read directions twice, program once .
Scatter helped me the first time, and now I'm a pro. I programmed Angel's gauge on the Bill Burke Trip just like I knew what I was doing; and anyone who knows me, knows that I hardly EVER know what I'm doing.
Also, keep in mind that it was because of a Scangauge II that this thread was started. If I hadn't had one, we could have saved about six pages of diatribe.
I moniter: Trans temp, (TFT). Water temp, (fWT). Inlet Air temp (fIA) (Which when moving, VERY closely approximates OAT. and finally, one other parameter; usually current MPG. (Which will drive you crazy).
I have an '08, and I mounted it just above the two cigarette plugs on the driver's side of the dash. I drilled a 1/2 inch hole for the cord and mounted the unit with HD Velcro (TM).

Yes, very easy to install. I think it probably took more time to get the guages we wanted in the places we wanted than it took to actually do the physical installation.
Ours is installed at the top edge of the dash, the edge closest to the driver, just off center of the steering wheel towards the center of the vehcile. Easy to see without moving eyes far from the road. No holes drilled. We ran the cord from the ODBII to the side pillar and then under a dashmat.

Weird...My 1982 Mercedes doesn't seem to have one...
