Re: Maximum allowable lean angle prior to rolling over
I have phone app inclinometer that you can set for your comfort zone and have not really needed it although some say I should have.

Re: Maximum allowable lean angle prior to rolling over
Ima say I don't need a device/tool/gauge to tell me what's too far... if I have to get out and look, the alarm is sounding. If I roll over, then a device/tool/gauge wasn't gonna save me to start with.

I found an app (haven't used), and I think the Torque Pro app (w/bluetooth OBD2 dongle) can also show you inclinations. I think it would be a fun thing, but I think there are way too many variables when offroad to give you a credible indication of whether you will or will not flop over.
BTW, the app bellow lets you set alarms. Trial version is free.

I have a better idea. You go first and if you make it, I'll be right behind. But does that big ol diesel lower your center of gravity?

Carringb, That's amazing, where did you find that info? There is no way I would want to test those limits though.

Transport Canada did the testing.

Re: Maximum allowable lean angle prior to rolling over
I'm guessing Canadians with too much time on their hands. Winters are really long here. Can you say "Stir Crazy"?
Cheers

Re: Maximum allowable lean angle prior to rolling over
At the Sportsmobile Rally in Park City several years ago that SMB West sponsored, they dug a ditch about 3' deep and 10' wide and, using 4WD SMBs that they brought to the meet, had each of us drop two tires into the ditch with the other side of the van on the top of the bank and drive down the ditch a ways. I'm guessing that we were tipped about 30 degrees or so but it felt like a lot more (which matches Dave's comment). With the passenger side of the on the top of the bank, my wife was sliding off of the seat but we were a long way from tipping over. Granted, the tires down in the ditch were not sliding sideways. iI was a worthwhile test but I would not put myself (and our van) into anything close to that much camber.
