We beat the system a little by ordering our van ourselves from our local Freightliner dealer and then taking it to SMB Indiana. The whole process took us about 1 year. SMB didn’t care at all where we bought the van and it also allowed us to establish a local service relationship with Freightliner. I even got a better discount on the van than I would have received from SMB.

Just got the news this evening. Our 2018 low roof Sprinter 144 4x4 arrived at SMB W. Almost 2 years to the day that we made the deposit. We will finalize the build by the end of next week. The end of the beginning has begun.

Congrats That is a test of patience, for sure!
If anyone is looking for a virtually new 2018 144” High Top 4x4 Cargo, I have one for sale. Interior pic shows no side panels or rear section headliner - I have a set of factory ones lined up, if wanted. If you need upfitting, I can arrange for that, too. I would be really happy if a forum member was able to nab this.

We put our deposit down in July of 2017. No build date yet.
Originally we were told that we would get our van in October 2018. Then we were given a tentative build start date of January 10 2019. Obviously both have come and gone. No idea when we'll get it. I wish I had known about all the alternatives before we started this!

If you have put down a deposit, is there a way to get that money back if you are still waiting for a van to arrive? It seems like they shouldn't be on the hook to build you a van if they have no clue when it will come in. I would try to get my deposit back and look into other options like Exclusive Outfitters or whatever.

My understanding is the ‘18 ‘s are gone right? Is smb communicating this or are they still hopeful for these long awaited vans to arrive?
We just placed a deposit for a 2019 4x4 170...my kids may be in college before we get it...

My deposit was made in Dec, 2016. The order is for the much delayed '18 models, which SMB-W said will be slowly trickling in until this summer. I don't know though. It's been difficult to maintain enthusiasm.

We were offered a refund when the initial six month delay occurred. It's a tough call when you've done so much planning and waited for nearly a year and a half already. Unfortunately it's been delayed even further now, as a huge number of vans showed up all at one time at SMB W. Obviously had we known what we now know, we probably would have gone another direction. Fingers crossed all will be well in the future.
