Re: WTB: Diesel SMB camper

Thank you for your wisdom. I like the observation about buying a 2wd and doing the 4x4 conversion myself to save money.

Re: WTB: Diesel SMB camper

Sorry about the horrible ethics of your seller. Thought I would share my positive experience when I bought my SMB to show not everyone is like that. We bought our SMB while we lived in Las Vegas. I saw a Craigslist ad in San Diego for a SMB. I called the guy and told him I was driving to San Diego the following morning and would buy it if it was in good shape. When I got there my wife gave me the okay nod before we even drove it. As we were looking at it he told me a guy was on a flight from Seattle coming down to look at it and another guy from Texas said he would fly up to look at it. When I expressed concern saying I thought we had an agreement, he stated he told both guys I had first right of refusal and he would not sell it to them for a higher price, even if offered. I appreciated his integrity. We bought his SMB at a great price . . . and the rest is our history.

Re: WTB: Diesel SMB camper

I bet the guy on the flight from Seattle has a different take on your sellers ethics.

Re: WTB: Diesel SMB camper

Actually the seller told him I had first right of refusal. The guy decided to fly down anyway just in case I decided not to take the rig.

Re: WTB: Diesel SMB camper

I'm new. First post. We just built up our Syncro and now are thinking of starting a new project (something bigger) and will probably sell her ... Prolly this spring. The Syncro is surprising capable (it's no jeep but it has a kitchen). It's just to small for our NW camping trips (with bad weather you need to be spend sometimes in doors).
Anyway...it's a programmable Kerma chipped TDi (out of an 03 Jetta). Front and rear lockers and a decoupler (3 knobber) so can drive around in 2wd.... Lifted on 16's and gets 25-30 mpg. Totally custom interior and exterior mods
It's got 10k since the build (mostly highway miles trying to find some sun)

If your interested.....we got a little bit more than 45k invested in it tho.....just a suggestion

Re: WTB: Diesel SMB camper

Much appreciated! I actually drove a Syncro for the first time in Idaho a few weeks ago. I decided real quick they weren't for me. Super cool vehicles though. Maybe someone else on the board would be interested. Also you can try posting on Samba and Expo Portal.
