The bucking and cutting out resumed before noon today.

I parked uphill from a gas station and got to work.

Thinking of you info-nymphos I took pictures.

My assumption was that the fuel was boiling before the carb could mix it with air.

Removing the gas cap did nothing so it wasn't a tank vent issue. It didn't happen last night so that points to heat causing the fuel to boil.

The all steel fuel line comes forward from the tank, passes around the frame rail to the front mounted mechanical pump and then returns to the back of the engine in almost the same exhaust heat exposed route.

I used 3/8" rubber fuel line throughout.

I know most Mopar lines are 5/16", but at the side of the road sloppy connections with 2 clamps beat an impossibly tight connection.

From back of the engine I found a fuel filter tucked up in the frame. I cut it out and installed two see-through filters and a Holley electric pump.

The doghouse wouldn't lift out without unbolting the passenger's seat so, lacking tools, I pushed it aside and found a threaded connection on the carb fuel line that I was able to open. I shoved the 3/8" line over it and applied two clamps.

The new line runs down the back of the motor towards the new pump location. Clear filters allow instant flow verification.

The wire was speaker wire with the connections covered in duct tape. I wired the other end direct to the battery. Wire insulation was removed using my teeth.

Remember I bought all of these parts 2 days ago off the top of my head.

And used only 4 tools.

I hooked it up, tightened some leaking connections (expected remember), and drove off.

It worked fine until I ran it hard on the repetitive hills leading into Des Moines, Iowa. Same issue, but much reduced. I'll dig into it further at home, but for now, when well heated up, it will run 50 mph uphill.

Carb float height and more heat insulation for the carb should fix it. I can't see the carb to know if the original heat fighting Thermoquad is still there.

Lord I like old Mopars.

More as it happens.

Last gas load was just over 8 mpg!
