As Fool129 said, easy to do a motor installed. Drill from under at cyl 8. You could certainly drill and tap the exhaust manifold while out, but I would wait to install the probe until after the motor was all back together. Just make sure you can easily access the drill point.
Gauges - Hewitt are the least expensive and are aircraft rated. 0 to 1500 or 1600 max so you have resolution. Wanna get super fancy - Hewitt makes a double probs EGT so you could have a probe on each bank, just a big hard to read.. I suggest no more than 0 to 30 on boost gauge,
