Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
That's not a solar panel mount, it's art! You'll love not having to carry your generator anymore.
Nice work Woody!

What did you do to your SMB today?
Nice work. Am thinking about doing something similar so I appreciate your doing it first. Will be interested to hear if any issues come up over the next several months of use.
On a side note, who's track system do you have on the outside edge of the penthouse? Did you consider using that to mount the panel to?

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
Ron,
I will still carry the generator, you never know when someone needs some AC power.
Larrie,
It's a Thule rack. I didn't want it that high.

Very nice rack/mount design and installation. Your welds look really nice as well. You must have some practicing on your aluminum TIG welding.

Woodie,
Great job!
I see the retired welder skills have come in handy again.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
Thank you for the complements. I was a Ironworker, fabricator, welder for 35 years and the last 19 years before I retired I did a lot of aluminum welding.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
Installed new DANA 60 4.10 R&P in the rear axle; to match the front axle ratio installed at time of 4X4 conversion. Interesting to find both carrier bearings badly pitted on many of the rollers. My best guess is that the SMB sat unused most of its life and moisture in the rear housing attacked the bearings while it sat and corroded them. Once the thing was driven, the rusted spots get chipped away and erode the bearing. Gear ratio seems great on the road and the low drone I was hearing from the rear axle is all gone!

What did you do to your SMB today?
Stopped by SMB west to see about adding a closet door to the back cabinet and next thing I know the van is in the shop getting it done.
