Re: SMB West Factory Visits

I like the layout a lot. Very cool van.

It looks like the hand control needs to be set up properly by someone with personal experience. A lot of leverage and comfort to be gained there. I also added rubber padding to mine like a roll bar.

How wide is the isle between the gaucho and the refrigerator? It would be good the have about 30" minimum for a smaller manual w/c.

If I was building this for my own use, I would keep it all 48" wide at the floor, (wheel wells), then angle in to the same counter depth, for example. For wheelchairs, we need it wide low, for turning and maneuvering, narrower up higher, (above knee height).

Excellent!

Now I'll be competing for those accessible camp sites!

Re: SMB West Factory Visits

I will be visiting SMB West on Friday December 16th and should have some time to snap pictures of builds in progress. Send me a personal message with your build number or description and anything in particular you want pictures of and I will do my best to get it.

Re: SMB West Factory Visits

What about suggesting that SMB put live web cams in their shops, kind of like the ski slope cameras. That might be very interesting, except the help would probably go on strike.

Re: SMB West Factory Visits

I got one pic a silver rig friday I think. I'll post it if it came out. But I'll be back in a week or so and can take more if you like.

Re: SMB West Factory Visits

Ditto that request Dave. Mighty nice of you to offer. I would love to see a few more pics of my van under construction. SMB sent some to me a few weeks ago, but I think the furniture is in by now. It's a silver E250 V8 gas 2WD regular body Ford. Also, real interested in hearing if you see a big scratch on the rear driver's side behind the back window outside (one of their photos had an indication on it but there's no way to know from the pic if it was just some grease or something else).

Thanks!

Re: SMB West Factory Visits

SMB uses a grease pencil on the body many times for info like who's van it is or where to cut in stuff like windows.

So I’m looking for 2 silver vans?

I’ll post the pictures I took Friday anyway.

Re: SMB West Factory Visits

Thanks a lot Dave- Ours was supposed to start construction th 4/13 but was told they are behind and it will start "in 4x4 soon", we'll see. They say the 12 week time frame is still realistic in that no new builds are planned for the month of May.

My wife and I are touring SMB West Thursday, May 13th so I'll snap pics and post as well.
