This may be the way to go for me. When talking to my mechanic buddy about not having 4x4 in the mountains (for now...) he suggested to get a second spare tire, wrap both spares in chains, carry a floor jack and an impact driver. Five minutes and you're swapped over. I HATE having to use chains and 1/2 the reason I want 4x4 is so I never have to in the snow but this might be a good compromise while I save for a 4x4 conversion.
The first time I try lifting the van in the cold with a scissor jack while racing everyone else to the mountain for fresh powder might be just as frustrating as putting on chains in the traditional way.

If you don't already have a cordless impact dedicated and carried for roadside tire changes let me wholeheartedly recommend the Milwaukee 2754 3/8"M18! I carry one and even though it's "only" 3/8" drive it'll easily spin off lugs torqued to 140+ ft/lbs---I've done this myself. With fully charged battery it stows into this small a space:
All tucked away and ready for use:
Wait a minute---am I just enabling others to spend more money?
Anyway HTH

I agree 100% with this....I carry this same 3/8" impact and the Hi-Torque 1/2" with me at all times in the van. It's also very wise to make sure your spare wheel assy works with the lugs you have on your wheels...most of the after market wheels use lugs that don't always work if you use a stock spare wheel. Personally I decided to stop messing around with incompatibility issues and I now have 6 completely matching wheels and tires. This has come in handy as I tend to drive my van hard with little regard for mechanical sympathy...flats happen! A recent Mojave Road trip to a race in Laughlin cost me a tire, but with the floor jack, matching spare and impact we were back up and running in about 5 minutes like nothing happened.

I was at an event showing who I work for and the Milwaukee guys happened to be next to us. The regional guy was interested in what we have and was able to get some deals. I will try to get a smb code.
I work for Eaton and no I work on the electrical so no lockers but I do get a good deal on the plugs and switches.

I don’t have a dedicated impact driver for the van but this is a great idea. Love how small it is.
Gooseberry, please me know if you get a code! Thanks!

My lug nut sockets and my impact sockets are all 1/2" drive, so I bagged this one on ebay today for $90.

I'm a huge Milwaukee fan and never look at any other brands--simply have too many batteries already to even think about "cheating"
For my set up shown above I bought an imported 7/8" deep well impact socket 3/8" drive used only for wheel lug nuts.
I too have a good selection of 1/2" drive impact sockets but for on-board emergency carry the 3/8" will do the job perfectly.

Yes indeed--if a code does become available and its cost effective I'd snag up the M18 1/2" High Torque impact.

Milwaukee is fine. I'm a dedicated Makita guy for the same reasons. Sticking with one battery/charger type.

Got my hummer jack friday and picked up a 3/8 makita last week. Nothing like a good breakdown to kick the inner prepper into gear.
