Colorado Camper Van pop top question

I will share how we handled the bed panels in our van. We had one fixed panel in the rear and three loose panels. When the top was up we stacked the panels in the rear of the van. But that took time and we had to take down the bedding before stacking the panels.

I created a large fixed panel and connected the panels with piano hinges to create a folding bed that can be raised is seconds and is completely out of the way. It can quickly lower and keeps the mattress and bedding mostly in place. This setup has work well for us.

Here is the link to my build thread that give some details on how I CCV setup. Post #92.

Is there any insulation in the roof of these?

I am assuming they offer an insulated side panel?

Yes we offer insulation in both the top & canvas.

Don't know how I missed this back when it was posted cthayn (been contemplating converting my SMB pop-top to CCV, so I've been following some of the Threads) - very slick set-up !

Reviving this thread with a question regarding lifting capacity of the CCV top. We had ours done about 2 years ago. We love the top and currently have Unistrut with one solar panel, Maxxair fan, and 2 Yakima round bars on it. About 52 lbs on the roof already. I'd love to carry a tandem sea kayak I built last year that comes in at 84 lbs and a friend gave us a Thule Hullivator I'm installing (39 lbs). Altogether about 175 lbs. And the way the Hullivator works puts most of the kayak and Hullivator weight on one side.

Anyone have thoughts about the lift system being able to handle that much weight, particularly with the weight being distributed asymmetrically?

I have a 80lb Coleman ac, two 150watt panels. So probably about 120lbs. Lifts fine. I would imagine closer to 200lbs it might be topping it.

I read on the CCV website that 100 lbs is the limit for lifting the top. But looking at all these pics of racks for CCV tops made me think that people are lifting lots more than 100 lbs. Unless they are carrying styrofoam on them.

So I installed the Hullivator and instead of the big tandem kayak I started with a similar, but smaller, single kayak. The top went up like a champ, with me helping with a push on the ceiling for the first 12 inches. Pics attached.

So it seems to work, but managing the Hullivator at the 8+ foot height of the roof is challenging. I'm going to try rollers mounted on a Yakima bar at the rear of the roof and try to load it from the back. Without the Hullivator we will save 39 lbs. Tomorrow's project.
