I'm also interested to see how this goes. My 1992 has a 7.3 IDI and while it should do well for awhile, a swap is definitely in the long-term cards. I lean towards a 5.9 12V/Allison conversion, but could be convinced to switch to gas.

I was heading that way as well but the option to get it done right are very limited. I'm losing all the noise, 600lbs in the front, and it's meant to go in the van. I'm a die hard diesel person and if there was a viable straightforward way to go I'd be there. There are only a few cummins vans on the road. I think there will many godzilla vans in the future as this new option spreads like the LS did. 430hp and nearly 500lbs of torque should move my rig better than what I had and the heat issues will be vastly reduced.

To me the big seller on this would be that for the folks in states with strict emissions, you can use the factory intake, EGR, presumably downpipes + cats, etc. - and come away with a fully intact factory option.

True. One reason I am keeping my 1992 is because it is emissions-exempt in PA. I want a 5.9 12V Cummins for its simplicity compared to other engines like the 6.7 or 24V versions. Combined with a +08 nose conversion (using a PSD radiator and charge cooler), I am hypothesizing (hoping?) that engine bay temps should be lower with a better turbocharger location and overall better air flow with the inline 6 vs. a V8.
But I will only do this conversion when I have the space to do a complete frame-off tear down of the van. I am figuring I'll be on my 3rd interior build at point. My plan is to find a reasonably clean '08+ cargo van and in addition to the nose parts, also weld/bond in the sides to remove the way-too-large conversion van windows.

Am wondering if you will have any issues with Oregon DEQ. Swapping the engines will probably change the emissions profile.

You would think swapping out an older diesel for a modern gas version would be easily accepted, but it rarely works out that way and varies a lot by state rules and enforcement policies.
In PA, it'll depend on one's relationship with their local inspection shop. If you want to be a "car guy/gal" in PA, developing a good relationship with a shop for doing inspections is pretty much mandatory.

Since my rig weighs more than the cutoff I don't have to go through DEQ.

Looks great.
I am in the throes of a new engine, just a replacement 6.0 liter gas GM, nothing like this.
