Not enough torque 2wd

I recently got stuck trying to go back up a pretty steep and rocky incline, the v8 5.9 just didn't produce enough torque to spin the 32s on my van. I have a 3.93 axle in the rear with a trutrac LSD. Works great for getting out of sand etc, but I guess weighing almost 8k lbs is too much.

Guess I found the 2wd limit

Time for the 5.9 of the inline and turbocharged variety?

Actually looks like there are superchargers or turbochargers available for the magnum 5.9 might be an option .

Put a modern Hemi in it. Cheaper and way more practical.

I put a 5.2 Magnum in place of a 1984 360. Great results, but for the work a Hemi is a much superior outcome.

Yes they fit in the B series vans.

Do you know of a thread or article where this has been successfully done? All I can find are a bunch of posts of people starting. I'm mostly wondering how the electrics would work.

He used a stand alone hot rod style wiring harness with an ECM that someone reworked. Note the modern trans too. 2012. This is an old swap. Costa lotta.

Google "hemi swap wiring harness".

A few 3 wire harnesses come up.

That's a 71-78 series van. Next 2 generations the motor would be further aft or the dog house opening wouldn't come so far back.

That was more of a "ha-ha, replace one 5.9 with another 5.9"... Certainly not practical or cheap. I've heard of a few of the 5.9 cummins' swapped into E-series but haven't a clue how or even if they would fit in a dodge van.

I'd just be wondering about what "cheap swaps" there were across the board for all vans, and just how much you can "get away with" before you have too much motor for the trans/transfer case/rest of the driveline, as well as be swapping a motor in that is stout enough for relatively high power output for extended time.

The most obvious answer for a 5.4L would seem to be "find a junked 6.8L V10", but there has to be other engines that are out there with similar output and equal/better fuel economy? Even then, if you replace the 5.4 w/ the 6.8, you probably end up doing the transmission while you're at it?

I've heard procharger makes a setup for 2v 5.4's, but then there's still the question of if a stock trans would hold up to 350-400 hp?

Something sounds wrong with the whole equation.

I had a 5.9 v8 "magnum" (he says sarcastically). It's a low torque pig but it will get you where you want to go.

If it can't go with the vehicle in low gear, there must be a major malfunction. I had a low power problem due to an air cleaner issue - made a surprising diff. The next logical step for gearing would be 4.10 but that wouldn't make a huge diff based on the description. Is it possible the engine is tired? How's the compression?

I'd sure as heck diagnose the actual problem before throwing money at it.
