You'll find lots of opinions on this but generally in the 220s. When EOT reaches 253F the engine will defuel to provide cooling protection. The thermostat doesn't even start to open until 190 or 195F and isn't fully open until 215 to 219F. The fan should kick in by 220F but the PCM is reading a number of sensors besides ECT in determining fan operation and speed. I've seen mine not kick on until an ECT of 224F with oil temps in the low 230s. Either way, you don't want EOT exceeding ECT by more than 15F.

I'm right there with Joe, and I'll add that I think the fan kicks on also when it reads certain air intake temps as well so that could create a bit of variance in when it comes on. I ran mine pretty hard up at times up some long passes in the summer at good speeds and never really saw more than ECTs of low 220s and Eots of low 230s. The fan would come on though and do its job of keeping things in check.

My readings are very similar but my van does run a bit warmer with a stock tune over the one I'm running now. DP made the fan a bit more aggressive in operation with their tune.

Thanks for the replies. I just got mine bulletproofed (BP EGR valve, BP water pump, Ford updated oil cooler + new radiator) and will be hauling a boat for a few hours with some elevation gain today so I'm interested to see what readings I get. Unfortunately I can only see ECT and EGT my Edge won't show EOT.

That's odd. It's a PCM sensor so the Edge should read EOT. But not EGTS. You need a separate probe for that.

The BPD water pump is a thing of beauty. Too bad it's so hidden but nice to know it's there. When I replaced mine I had a broken plastic impeller blade.

I had the guys at the shop try and add EOT while they were bullet proofing. They said they tried but found that Edge didn't really support that on the E series without adding a whole new sensor. Is that not true?

I'm not that familiar with the Edge but yes my guess is they were in error. Or, there's a mis-communication. The Edge will read EGT but only if you add a temperature probe to the header or downpipe. Preferably the header to you get a pre-turbo reading. Is that what you have?

Not sure to be honest. I'm the second owner and it was all installed by the original.

The Edge is plugged into the OBDII port and can read any sensor the PCM is using to monitor and control the engine including the transmission. Adding a separate pyrometer and a fuel pressure gage is a good idea since there are no sensors for those.

My van usually sees 188 EOT and 190 ECT just cruising. If I am climbing a grade I will see 200ish EOT and 205 ECT. I don't think I have ever heard my fan come on unless I turn the AC on. I am running a BPD Oil cooler and EGR cooler.
