Re: Espar Heater Problems

So, Greg, what do you think of the kerosene blast approach that I posted about earlier? It worked for me. I got the info from an Espar factory tech/customer service person.

Yes I have used it as well and it seems to work. They (Espar) have also used gasoline and I think it works OK but it does not vburn as hot as the kerosene. I really think the best thing is to run it on high as much as possible. When its run on low it runs so cool that carbon sticks like glue. I wish I would have look at yours a little closer when I had it here. If you have trouble you can remove the burner tube and soak it in a good carbon remover too. I think for light carboning issues this works the best and will last the longest.

Re: Espar Heater Problems

Greg,

I wasn't aware that you were the Greg from lube Specialists! There are so many Gregs on this forum. I never knew why my unit still smoked after you cleaned it. Thinking it was the controller, I replaced it with another from SMB. May have been it, too, as things started to improve. Removing the unit from a 50 plan SMB is NOT fun, even though I got good at it. The kerosene blast is easier than removal.

Thank you for signing up here and helping out.

Greg, I split your parts list post and made it sticky (so it will always be at the top of the forum).

Re: Espar Heater Problems

Greg,

A few of us have gas (V10) engines but none of us have an Espar. It seems Espar does make a unit. Can you shed some light on this from your expereince. I would really like to add heat and had been considering a gas driven Webasto Blue Heat but they have trouble at high altitude.

What can you tell me about the gas driven Espar's? Any experience with them?

I really need heat!

Fpr what ever reason SMB had trouble selling gas heaters. They had this idea they were not safe. Far from the truth, they are as safe as anything else. These heaters gas and diesel and packed with safety's. They are both as safe or safer than the furnace in your home. To look at the units you could not tell which is gas and which is diesel. The only difference really is the fuel pump. As long as you have the combustion air intake and of course the exhaust outside and the mounting plate sealed you will have no issues.

Re: Espar Heater Problems

Thanks Greg.

SMB West would not install last I spoke to them.

Have you actually installed or sold the Gas version? Do they have the same issue as the diesel version when run on low?

Well that and the fuel itself, last I checked diesel fumes didn't explode.

No the gas does not have the issue near as much. I have sold a number of gas units but I have to say that diesel sells 100 to 1 over gas.

Re: Espar Heater Problems

Well, I get to revive an old thread... and not for a good reason...

I just tried to fire up my Espar diesel furnace to make sure it would work for the winter months. I got nothing but cold air out of it. I spent over $1,000 dollars last winter in parts and service time to make this thing work. I made 4 trips to the service center which is a 4 hour round trip for me. I ended up pulling the unit out of the van myself, and had to cut out some of the cabinets to do so. It was a very time and money consuming "adventure."

And just now, when I tried running it, nothing but cold air came out. Total pain in the ass P.O.S., it is...
