Mice like the dark so whatever you can do to eliminate dark spots is helpful. Pretty impossible on a van, I know.

After any camping trip I always try to remove any food from my rig. Most nesting I've found was either near or had food in it that was collected nearby.

I have found that traps work really well if placed properly. I don't use bait, I just put the trap along the edges of spaces that I know mice will be traveling in. I use bait outdoors around my property, but I feel placing it inside anywhere increases rodent activity.

You can also try the bucket traps, I have seen them work very well.

I have and have used the Honda Rodent tape. To my knowledge none of the tape I've applied ever had a repeat of rodent damage, but it's impossible to cover everything.
