4D AGM battery size
It’s getting about time to replace the big house battery located under the (Ford) van. I was going to go with a Lifeline GPL-4DL but the specs indicate that it’s 20.76” long. I drug a tape along my battery tray and it will fit up to 19.5”. Anyone else run into fit issues with the Lifeline? If so what battery did you go with to fit the tray?
Thanks

Each build can differ quite a bit. Is the battery in a plastic or metal battery box? Is the box is too short and if so could you find a different box? Or are they on the side like the passenger side?
Mine are mounted in two battery boxes (end to end) on the SMB built cross bars between the frame near the rear axle. They are plastic marine battery boxes with lids. The issue I have with other batteries other than the Lifeline's is how tall the batteries are from the cross bars and to the van body above the battery lugs. The top of the battery box lid must have enough clearance. Deka's fit the boxes but were too tall even with the same type lugs. Length was not an issue for me because there was plenty of room between the frame rails.

The 20.76 " dimension is for the top of the battery, the bottom of the battery measures 19.05" GPL-4DL AGM Battery.

It’s in a plastic box with a lid. Looks like Greg’s answer is just what I needed. Thanks

Greg, just to confirm before I order one, there are two Lifeline units with the only difference being the terminals: the 4DL has the the L blades, the 4DA has the automotive posts. Without having ever seen the top of the battery in my van I’m assuming the L blade is what is needed for this application? Thank you.

I'm in the middle of a Lifeline 4DL swap. My battery was in a steel tray behind the rear axle, not in any kind of box. I've rebuilt the tray out of thicker steel as the old one was badly rusted. New circuit breaker showed up and paint should be cured in a couple days. Hope to have things buttoned up this weekend.

Looks great. My tray has some rust but not too bad from what I can tell. I may treat it and repaint when it’s on the ground.

Yeah we spend a lot of time on the beach so a new rack was in order. Since the battery was out I spent some time addressing under body rust. Wire wheel and paint as well as 3M cavity wax where paint couldn't reach. Generous coating of rubberized undercoating in the wheel wells too after rust remediation and primer. Plan is to keep this rig for the long haul.
