Penthouse tops

Are they good to walk around on? Say for example if I was loading some kayaks into the Yakima bars.

Thanks

They are slippery when wet. Perhaps keep your PFD on as padding in case of a fall.

Never had a concern about the weight. Sportsmobile says, "Is is OK to stand on the top?
Yes! Up to a dozen or so people."

Awesome, thanks. It’s looking wet here in the southeast so I may be up there before too long.

Yes, and if you haven’t added it yourself or have SMB’s latest version using textured paint up there, add some 3M or similar anti slip tape in the areas where you walk. Comes in different colors and widths.

BEST vantage points for taking photos!!! BUT, REF is correct!! Too slippery when wet and very high even when dry...I keep a canoe on top and have to strap it down...a bit tight in the middle so I slooooowww down and take my time up there....and BTW slippery ESPECIALLY if you are soaping up the top when washing by hand!! You will slide right off and break your neck if you are not very aware and on all fours!

Our 2004 Sportsmobile came with the smooth top. Yes, quite slippery when covered with snow or wet. In about 2014 we had electric motors added,. Because of their pricing structure, it was value added to get a new top at the same time so the new top is the current current “crinkle” finsh. Not slippery at all.
