We use a locking fire alarm cabinet that I salvaged from a construction project. It is bolted into the cabinets.

Word of caution here, guys. Thieves read forums too. Many of us are pretty easy to find given these unique vehicles. Guard your privacy and your ideas and don't forget the PM function.

However, with my 2001 E250 SMB having swivel seats vs standard OEM fixed seats, I suspect this installation would not be possible.

My initial googling images came across the following "fire alarm cabinet" :

Installing this would be wildly cool, with flashing red lights and a blaring fire alarm.

I like this idea!

Use a regular battery hold down and its moderately secured to the piont of needing hand tools to get it out.
Since under the hood there is only one battery hold down, would I need to add another?

Has anyone else in this thread tried this approach?

Thank you
If you have your house batteries somewhere on the interior you could go this route. My van has no batteries underhood, all are on the framerails underneath. YMMV

In my analysis of the threat, ( a break-in thief of an unattended vehicle) a prime requirement is to at least impede the thief from gaining access under the assumption he will discover the hiding place.

This implies some welded metal box (probably in the floor or a wall). With the prevalence of portable angle grinding tools, the box must be pretty stout and have protected attachment points if not a full weld.

The headrest fails in that it looks like if discovered, the thief just has to pull it up out of the seat.
