Ok. So after some prep time I‘m close to the next target:
Repaint the roof!!

I got the van back with the wheel wells properly done, all flaws are done.
I got a new compressor as the 2G compressor was fine for the door jams, but I‘m afraid I‘m getting slowed down doing the large areas.

I built a „mobile paint shop“, tape everything off.

Tomorrow it‘s about the last tiny bits (getting rid of the flash rust after sanding everything down to bare metal, check all corners for correct taping,…) and then I‘ll lay the primer on.
Will have to wait for 7:30/8:00pm for the temps to go down here in Cupertino.

I‘m feeling I‘m doing it redneck style, but that doesn‘t mean something bad. Perhaps have to drop off some chocolate for the neighbors after running the angle grinder and DA sander until 9/10pm [emoji23][emoji23]

But hey: getting it done as good as I can next to my regular job^^

And I‘m happy police didn‘t see going to the body shop like this [emoji23]

Impressive efforts, especially in CA.

Passenger side and hood are done. Now only the driver side (where most of sanding was already done when taking out the dent) is left and I can start assembling it.

After a small break due to other things coming up I will eventually finish the paint job this weekend.

When sanding around the windshield it was fairly hard to sand w/o damaging the sealing.

My workaround:
I just placed a cord under the seal to lift it up a bit. Worked great for sanding and the DA doesn’t hit it anymore! For painting it should also be a blast!

Got to admire your persistence - when I see big projects like these undertaken by other members (like yourself) I have nothing but admiration for your effort and patience. 30 or 40 years ago I may have considered it.
As I typed that last statement I realized 'NOT'...I'm pretty sure even then I would have succumbed to the simplicity of hiring it out to protect my sanity.
So, more power to ya!

Thanks for acknowledgement from you guys.
I know why I started with the roof: because I know right now I would have “postponed” it.
I think I’m somewhere where I mentioned in one of (or the) first post: Once done I’ll be sooo happy, but from time to time anger finds it’s way to my thoughts [emoji23]

Now I have to finish the driver’s side. Then another few days for assembly and I’m good to go :-)

I’ll let you know more details once I’m done about how much paint I used where, main challenges and so on.
