Re: Too Ignorant to pick Wheels/Tires

I haven't yet found anything better looking than the Mojave Teflons that can handle the extra load.

According to my tire shop, the 16 x 8 is rated at 3100lb and up to 80 PSI.

I think I'm going to go with 16", I like the idea of more sidewall, and I can get E rated Toyo or BFG KO TA in 285/75 16.

If I upgrade my brakes, most likely upgrade is the cryo slotted and Hawk LTS like on my other van, which will still fit until 16" rims.

I've also seen good review on Coopers (Cooper sponsor me for TSD rallying, so maybe I need to send some love back their way).

I am impressed with current BFGs in terms of ride/noise/grip. Toyo tread looks great.

Further thoughts on BFG vs Toyo vs Cooper?
Any other wheels I should be looking at?

Re: Too Ignorant to pick Wheels/Tires

Laziness got the better of me, I ordered 5 Mojave Teflons in 16 x 8, and BFG AT KO 285/75 16 E load rated, black sidewall from the local Discount Tire.

If I ever upgrade brakes, I doubt I will increase rotor size (just go with cryo slotted), and I like the BFGs on the van now, so figured I would just go with the AT KO because they are so well reviewed.

Wheels were $162 ea, tires were $212 ea.
Total price inc tax was cheaper than TireRack with shipping.

I really like the Mojave Teflons. Does anyone know what the load rating of the rim is? I saw another site that claimed Max Load = 2200lbs.

The 16 x 8 is rated at 3100lb. Varies by size.

OK I think you sold me on these wheels. I was going to powder coat my factory wheels but I can get these locally for $150....

Re: Too Ignorant to pick Wheels/Tires

Yeah mine were 150 per wheel + 12 per wheel shipping. I tried to pick the no brainer option.

Re: Too Ignorant to pick Wheels/Tires

I got the Mojave's and E-rated BFGs on today, as well as UJOINT rear wheel spacers. Bit of a bigger job than I expected, needing to clean surface rust of the rotor->wheel faces and also the edge of the hubs. I painted the protruding ends of the rear axles, and the spacers too. Can you get replacement front hub trims, the ones that are cylinders that fit around the manual locking hub? (what are they called?)

The wheels look great (pics to follow) and are very stoutly built.

One of my original wheels had a big crack from a stud hole to the inner hub edge. I tossed it. Actually my stock wheels are rated at 2100lb (gulp). Hate to think what would have happened if that wheel let go.

I don't have a bead on black lug nuts yet. The ones on the van are McGard duplex 7/8" hex, they seem to work fine with the Mojaves for now.

ANZAC-
I have Mojaves and just took off those trim cylinders. If you can wait until about the beginning of September, I'll send them to you.. I'm at my cabin in British Columbia, and won't be home until then

Cool, I was wondering if you can buy black ones or paint them black?

They also list an "open end" cap, maybe that's for the front?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARE-1515306000/

I also couldn't fit the ATX center caps in from behind on the rear wheels due to the "hub" protrusion of the spacers. I think they sell push in caps at Tirerack and Summit, anyone try them?
