For ease I guess...it's only noticeable when the tops up!
It was professionally done by a local Line-X shop. "Tuckers Tuffer Coatings" Burlington, Wa. We decided to keep the finished elevation below the elevation of the bottom pop top gasket so water couldn't potentially pool there. Also, the front was done only on the raised sections of the roof (just like the tape is usually applied), so water wouldn't pool behind the approx 1/8" thickness of the Line-X. This allows the channel to let water out, just like with the tape. The added thickness that the top sits on hasn't created a problem, but keep your channel gasket material maintained.
