E85 would be bad news. It can cause the fuel pump impellers to swell, as well as damage o-ring in the rest of the fuel system.

Fuel pump relay is in the power distribution box under the hood. If its faulty, you can swap it with the either trailer tow relay (running lights or backup lights) which are adjacent to it.

I would never get E85 on purpose, but wow, I had no idea it could be that damaging. I will be extra careful from here on out!

Scotty,

So sorry to hear you are broken down on a vacation. I've never been to the KOA in Page, but I can say the campground at Wahweap marina/RV park is scenic (the hookup section is also like $50 per night, and there are neighbors all around, but it has a great view of the lake, and you can walk down to the beach). If I were stuck, I think I could feel like it was a mini-vacation hanging out there, even though I'm decidedly not a "campground person." I like the C-loop pull throughs on the first tier: C-1 and C-4 are my favorite sites.

Lone Rock is nice, but not if you are there sans vehicle, IMO.

That's good advice, I've only been to lone rock near page, but yes, sans vehicle would not be my choice, but having water views and access to the lake at the marina campground might make up a little for the breakdown, but you might be moving to a hotel if you're without the rig. Sort of puts bringing along a tent on these trips a good addition, in case of these unforeseen breakdowns and the rig ends up in the shop....

Re: Broken down in Page AZ

I lost my second fuel pump in Barstow last winter. The van was running fine before we stopped for breakfast, but wouldn't start afterwords, so it died all at once. With the original pump, six months prior, the engine failed to start several times over a period of a month or so. Waiting 30 minutes usually fixed the problem. A pressure gauge showed low pressure, so I put in a new one On the second failure, the pressure gauge showed zero psi. So, pumps can fail slowly or all at once. The only way to know for sure if it's the problem is to put a fuel pressure gauge to it. I'm considering carrying a spare fuel pump now, but I have no idea how I'll change it, but if I'm stuck in the wilderness, I'll find a way. Oh yea, my last failure was with a full tank, but the shop I ended up at had a jack that lowered it just fine. Best of luck in getting your trip going again..........

Re: Broken down in Page AZ

Thanks again everyone. We actually had a great day despite being stuck here. We got to know 2 neighbors, one who was dealing with a failing radiator and I helped hi. Change it out, and another who also chipped in and then insisted he mesquite grill everyone pork chops, chicken, fresh corn, zucchini and beans. Even ice cream for dessert! It was a treat and a great distraction from our worries. I love camping-folks. Always so generous.
Off to the shop early tomorrow, hoping to be first in line and they can get to us quickly. We plan to rent a car and head for Zion if it's going to be a couple days. If only one we will tour Antelope Canyon and maybe go check out Horseshoe Bend.
The 2 hour nap I got today was nice too.

Re: Broken down in Page AZ

Sorry to hear about your predicament, hope you get it back on the road soon. Apparently many other people with the E350 460 FI motor are experiencing the exact problem . what they also describe as "vapor lock " as it turns out in most cases the fuel pump is the problem . So much so Ford issued a couple of technical service bulletins to rectify what they call a common problem specific to the E350 with the 460. they retrofit with a "redesigned Ford fuel pump" and jumper harness. here is a link to one of the articles http://www.justanswer.com/ford/5h4lv-fo ... -e350.html and the TSB

Re: Broken down in Page AZ

JackTuppVan:That looks like some great, specific info! I hope Scotty sees it before heading to the shop. Interesting that it covers through 1997 since I thought 1996 was the last year for the 460 (but maybe that's not entirely true in all trim levels or something? Or they just wanted to cover the bases). At any rate, it looks like great info for anyone getting a new fuel pump in a 460. Sure would be nice to solve the issue once and for all!

REF: Duh, right, if they were without a vehicle, they would also be without a camper. I can't believe that didn't register with me since that's a worry in the back of my mind (vs. say, folks with a trailer). I don't have much room to carry a tent, but it's not a bad idea (or buy one as necessary?).

Awesome info Jack! I'll pass it on to the shop. I'm here now and it looks to be an A+ place.
