The next morning I was on the road early and hit the gate about 545 am and the checkpoint at 550am. Both were unmanned although I did get a vehicle permit for 31 Jul. In Aug only 2 days had any availability. If no permit, one just has to enter beforem6 am or after 3 pm.
Photos from the drive to Logan Pass:

At Logan Pass about 630am or so and the people were pouring in. It was apparent some number also spent the night in the parking lot. Not a dog friendly place with 2 trails not allowing dogs. Beautiful though. These photos are from there and on my way down the west side.

Nice! We are near St. Mary's tonight and hitting Many Glacier area tomorrow. Nice cool weather here and no bugs so far. Beartooth/Yellowstone was busy and buggy but still cool.

Thanks. Excellent. Amazing how different Beartooth was this time of year compared to early summer. I didn't make Many Glacier area.

Too bad you missed Many Glaciers, the lobby of the hotel there was, to me, the most impressive of any at the park. We ate dinner at the restaurant there several times and the view across the lake and up at the sharp peaked mountain on the other side right before sunset was really beautiful. Forty years ago, the wait staff at the restaurant were all music students from colleges around the country and they put on a show while we were dining. The last time we were there they were no longer doing that. It would be nice if they could restart that tradition.
Liked your pictures, it's a beautiful park. If you've never been up the Icefield Parkway, between Banf and Jasper, that is impressive too. I've never been up it at this time of year so the wildflowers might not be as plentiful, but it should still be a nice drive.

Eric, have you been up to Waterton Lakes in Canada? If you’re at Many Glacier it’s not that much farther. (Assuming you have passports with you.) There’s a nice provincial park campground there that we managed to score a same-day site at. The lodge there is really cool, and having high tea there is worth the $$.

This thread is great! Reminds me of the old days when members were posting trip reports on a weekly basis. Thanks! We found an out of the way lake West of Glacier, Moose Lake...had lake to ourselves. Trout bit every time. I have a pic or two... and this is what we have resorted to (lol) when taking a trip...our friends voted on 24 days out, favorite route/color...we are tabulating and taking off next week...which route, we are unsure of...we use my radar.com for radar, yes, but it also allows fire map icons...

Thanks ctb and to others posting in the thread.
Sounds like a great trip, have fun.
Awesome photos. Nothing like sites and lakes to yourself. I like the flexible route option with several possibilities, decide as you go.

After Glacier, I decided the heat eas more than I wanted to deal with I was going to head home, but back over Beartooth Hwy (212) and Pass at 10947 feet, Chief Joseph Hwy (296), and through Big Horn Mountains/NF.
I arrived at Red Lodge just after lunch. Pretty warm, upper 80s. Last time I went through Red Lodge was 2018. Sad to say it has changed and apparently "found". New housing and subdivisions have sprouted up. Main St was still basically the same, but all sidewalk from the road to buildings with no shade. There was green space on the south side.
From there I headed to where I overnighted before on FR 2412 and 421. It had gotten warmer and I didn't want to sit around all afternoon somI headed to the top of Beartooth. Much drier than last time and not as green, most snow gone.
