5 wires total, 2 pair that are connected together with cap, the remaining wire should be grounded. So you interrupt two circuits.

That's what i figured. Well shoot, now to tear this apart or roll the dice again.

Interestingly enough, only one pin is grounded.

What will you tear apart, the Ravelco or your installation? I've not heard of any loss of continuity with cap installed before---please double check your testing. I know you've done this already but it would be such an oddity if it proved to be an issue with the actual Ravelco.

I've never understood the ground wire but its not a bad idea since its possible the shell would be mounted to a metal sub-structure in a vehicle.

Is it to make it difficult to trace out with an ohm meter once installed? Are the unused pins all grounded together? I should have checked when I installed mine but didn’t……

Can't answer the real purpose of the ground wire but adding just one wire to the "array" doesn't really make tracing the pairs any more difficult than it would already be with the numerous "dummy" pins in the receiver part of a Ravelco. Add in that the interrupted wires might not show continuity without the ignition being on this still makes defeating one of them difficult at best.

Because their are just five wires inside the metal sheath I would doubt the "dummy" pins are connected in any way. If time permits I'll check your theory and report back.

Sorry to change the subject a little bit, but I'm curious if anybody has info on the effectiveness of the "Securilock" system that some of the Ford vans came with? As far as I can gather it's a passive system where if the van doesn't detect a key with a chip, it prevents the engine from starting.

Would this system by itself have been enough to prevent the majority of these thefts from occurring? Or is it easily bypassed? Searched the forum for "securilock" but only came up with one thread.

I'd have my doubts the Ford system can not be easily hacked especially by an experienced thief. I favor the Ravelco and similar devices/systems because its passive for the most part.

We see daily vehicles with all the gee whiz bing bang boom hi-tech things stolen to the amazement of their owners. While I'm somewhat skeptical of Ravelco's claims they've never had a loss you'd stand a better chance of discouraging theft with a Ravelco.

Do keep in mind I'm pretty much clueless about this Ford thingy so it just might be the cat's pajamas, bees knees or a must have coz its so fricking awesome!

Glen, We never forget ours...OK, I'm fibbing, like all the time. Getting better, the red ribbon on it like found on airplane parts that have to be removed before flight helped.

Does anyone know what years the Securilock system was available on the E series?
