Great solution, but couldn't you have installed the sensor, screwed it in until it bottomed and then by calculating the thread pitch, unscrewed it the required number (or fraction there-of) of turns to get the required gap?

Sensor is not threaded... Held in place with a clip.
There are many ways this could have been done. I was trying to not have a custom sensor in that spot but instead have it work just like the factory setup. The three Allison sensors are the same, to have an odd ball in the mix is inviting Murphy's law to ruin your expedition IMHO.

One pan gasket shy of a fully assembled Allison trans. Finishing this task cleared up about 100 sqft of floor space in the shop. Hoarding parts for this swap has taken up the majority of my storage space so as I get things checked off the list, my usable work space grows and grows! double bonus!

I think they made envy one of the seven deadly sins because someone, somewhere knew I would eventually be admiring your work. Man, it borders on the unbelievable.
Do you know if an Allison could be made to mate with a 7.3?

Just in case you didn't think I was serious.... Tear down has begun!
Top side is disconnected, a few odds and ends underneath and then the body bolts (currently soaking in penetrating oil).
I lost about a week and a half to being sick and caring for my sick kid but everyone's better now and progress is ramping up.
