Trasharoo alternatives?
Hey billwilson, you beat me to it, I have that same JoyTutus gear bag ordered up from Amazon, I’ve only had it mounted up since this past summer too, but it’s still looking good and the price is right at $50.
I had purchased and mounted an Overland Gear Guy bag, super quality coated material, but it’s just too small, I’m going to mount it up on our Jeep one of these days.
The other problem, really with all of them, is that the strap webbing stretches out when they get wet and the bag shifts down and sags from the weight, like a wet diaper!
The solution to this that helps a ton, thanks to ArcticTraveler pointing this out to me the last time we met up, is to wrap a strap or strong rubber bungee around the back side webbing to bunch it up tightly around the tire swing post if possible, taking up the extra slack.

I too have the Oscar Mobile Hideout from Lastbag and it seems to be a well built bag. They're local to me so wanted to give them a try and no regrets to this point.

Check out Rhino USA I bought it direct for $59.00 , Amazon has them also. After 2 Trasharoo units , figured I needed to look somewhere else. The Rhino units looks well constructed so far.
I take mine off when not using.

That Oscar’s Mobile Hideout bag looks to be a well made and nicely engineered piece, but yikes! At over $300 not exactly the most affordable solution to haul a couple of items off the back of your rig.

Ya the price definitely made it harder to go that route but I'm hoping that it last 6x longer than the trasharoo has. We try to not buy "disposable" items and like others have noticed the trasharoo has a short life even when we remove ours when not in use.

This one is unique in that it zips down the front for easy access to whatever's inside (I opted for a different brand, but liked this feature):

I got mine through an American Adventurist group buy for a third of that. It's really nice and will easily outlast more than a couple Trasheroos.

Every time this subject rolls around I am informed about a new take, or two, on the old Trasharoo. See what I did there? The problem for me is the cost of these better made ones. I like to support small American companies where I can and some of these Overland companies are intriguing but remember that Trasharoo is also an American company. Also, I know the argument is more over quality than where it's made as I've had a couple of Trasharoos rot to bits but I've got to hand it to these guys, they are only $50! I just pulled a new one out of the package yesterday and marveled at the reality of this thing still being $50 about 11 years after I purchased my first one. This makes it one of the best values bar none in overlanding IMO.
As stated above, I know they come apart but I've learned over the years that you just can't leave a Trasharoo out in the weather for too long, especially a black one. I would think that these $300 variants might sprout legs as well, as in be stolen.
I love the ideas shared but I'm sticking with the $50 Trasharoo original. I've only killed 2 or 3 in the last 10 years.
